US Senate Invites A Social Media CEO To Testify At The Child Sexual Exploitation Session

JAKARTA - The United States Senate Justice Committee will hold a session related to sexual exploration of children. This trial will be held online on the next 6 December.

"I call the CEO of large technology companies before the Senate Judicial Committee to testify to their failure in protecting children in cyberspace," wrote the Chairman of the Senator Committee Dick Durbin on the X platform.

The committee invited a number of CEOs from large technology companies. Engadget reported that Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Tiktok CEO Shou Zi Chew were invited to give testimony at the trial.

Besides Meta and Tiktok, X Linda Yaccarino CEO, Discord CEO Jason Citron, and Snap CEO Evan Spiegel is also expected to attend the hearing, but X and Discord have refused to give testimony.

If X and Discord refuse to attend, the committee will ask for help to the Marshal United States Office so that the two platforms can take personal testimony to the Committee.

It is not known why X and Discord refused to attend the trial, but the Discord gave a statement to Engadget that they still maintain user safety, especially for young people.

"We have been actively involved with the committee about how we can make the best contribution in this important industrial discussion. We welcome the opportunity to work together as an industry and with the committee, "said a spokesman for Discord.

Meanwhile, the Head of US and Canadian Government Affairs in X, Wilfredo Fernandez, said that, "We have worked in good faith to participate in the Judicial Committee session regarding online child protection because safety is our top priority at X."
