MAKI Considers Firli Bahuri To Feel Foreign When Examined At The Criminal Investigation Unit Because It Is Not Specialized

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI) assessed that KPK Chairman Firli Bahuri felt foreign when undergoing an examination of alleged extortion of former Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Syahrul Yasin Limpo at the Police Criminal Investigation Unit because he was not privileged. Unlike when he was in his office, Firli was not at all helped.

"If you feel foreign because of the years of service but like not being protected by your own institution, it shows that the National Police Headquarters is professional," Boyamin said in his statement to reporters, Tuesday, November 21.

Boyamin said Firli may feel that he will be privileged when questioned by police investigators at Bareskrim Polri. In fact, he did not get it because each witness received the same treatment.

"So Mr. Firli was shocked as if he wanted to hide from reporters because he didn't feel confident," he said.

Meanwhile, at the KPK, Firli was considered more confident because he could arrange everything. "Even up to the courage of a one-way press conference," said Boyamin.

"That's because he is confident in his office. If it's at the National Police Headquarters, it's uncomfortable, so he doesn't want to meet reporters," he continued.

As previously reported, Firli admitted that he did not expect to get injustice from the Police. Even though Firli has served for 40 years and retired with the last rank of Commissioner General (Komjen).

This was conveyed by Firli in connection with his examination as a witness to the alleged extortion of former Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Syahrul Yasin Limpo by the KPK leadership. Initially Firli said he had been in brown uniform for decades before finally retiring.

"For 40 years of my service, I spent my life serving the nation and state until I ended up serving as a retired National Police officer with the rank of Commissioner General of Police," Firli said at a press conference at the KPK's Merah Putih building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Monday, November 20.

However, Firli questioned his service after undergoing examination yesterday. "I certainly asked myself," he said.

"40 years of serving at the National Police institution but yesterday I had to ask if it was true that I had served there. And why did the headquarters feel foreign to me," continued Firli.

Firli said the feeling was turbulent when he was examined by investigators. Moreover, he never once felt absent or not present without information.

He ensured that his absence some time ago had been communicated through the legal bureau. Because Firli had to carry out his duties as Chairman of the KPK.

"I was summoned on November 8, 2023, but at the same time I also had to carry out my duties as Chairman of the KPK, present in the community, the epicenter of efforts to eradicate corruption, namely Aceh. So I have to go to Aceh. That's actually not absent but adjusting the agenda of the KPK institution," he explained.
