Proactive Step, Depok Immigration Office Destroys Substantive Physical Archives
DEPOK - On Tuesday, November 14 2023, the Class I Non TPI Depok Immigration Office carried out the Destruction of Immigration Substantive Physical Archives for the 2023 Fiscal Year. This symbolic event took place in the parking lot of the Immigration Office and was attended by the Head of the Office, Structural Officials, as well as Archivist and General Functions of the Depok Immigration Office.
Also present were representatives from the West Java Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, the Head of Subdivision for Immigration Information and Technical Functions of the West Java Ministry of Law and Human Rights Regional Office, as well as the Archivist from the General Bureau of the Secretariat General of the Indonesian Ministry of Law and Human Rights.
Head of the Depok Immigration Office, Henry Wibowo, delivered remarks at the start of the event, emphasizing the importance of archives in the administration of institutions or ministries. "The important role of archives in organizational and government governance is something that is absolutely necessary so that administrative activities can run smoothly," said Henry.
"Judging from their function, archives consist of active archives, inactive archives and archives that no longer have any use value and do not need to be kept. The limited capacity of archive storage space at the Class I Non TPI Depok Immigration Office encourages us to immediately destroy archives, especially for which has no use value and is not related to legal issues," he added.

Young Expert Archivist for the General Bureau of the Secretariat General of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia, Dani Satria, expressed his appreciation to the Class I Non TPI Depok Immigration Office for carrying out the destruction of archives in accordance with applicable procedures and regulations. "Archives are very important in national and state life because they are the foundation of an organization. Without archives, this country would never exist," said Dani.
The event continued with the signing of the Minutes of Destruction for 63,646 files, witnessed by Immigration officials and appointed witnesses. The highlight of the event was the symbolic destruction of substantive physical immigration archives, by burning the archives of the 2019 Republic of Indonesia Travel Document Application (DPRI).
