European Commission Urges TikTok And X To Improve Disinformation Eradication Efforts
JAKARTA - European Commission Vice President Vera Jourova held a meeting with Chief Executive TikTokShou Chew and Head of Global Affairs X Nick Pickles on 7 November.
During the meeting, Jourova discussed the issue of disinformation and the efforts of the two platforms in removing harmful content. From the Reuters report,Jourova feels that TikTok and X still need to increase their efforts.
TikTok admits that their Artificial Intelligence (AI) feature together with more than 6,000 moderators have removed millions of disinformation posts related to the Hamas and Israel wars. TikTok is also developing a special team to deal with child abuse content.
Jourova welcomed this TikTok move. He said he was happy with TikTok's improvements, but still urged the platform to further increase its efforts. The reason is, illegal and dangerous content is still quite high on TikTok.
Meanwhile, we don't know the contents of X's statement when we met Jourova. However, Jourova said that he was concerned about the high amount of violent and illegal content on the platform.

Just as his response to TikTok, Jourova urged the X-platform to continue to improve their efforts to address disinformation, both related to Israeli attacks on Gaza and other disinformation topics.
For information, the European Commission continues to monitor all social media platforms after the Digital Service Act (DSA) is passed in the European Union (EU). Through this policy, all platforms must address the problem of spreading harmful and disinformation content.
In addition to the increasing disinformation during the Hamas and Israeli wars, the European Commission is trying to prevent increased disinformation so that EU parliamentary elections in June next year are not affected by the matter.
