Blue Ghost Can Last On The Moon Longer Than Mount Everest's Age
JAKARTA Blue Ghost, a spacecraft developed by Firefly Aerospace, will be one of the largest missions of the United States Aeronautics and Space Agency (NASA).
The reason is, the plane with a height of 6.6 feet and a diameter of 11.5 feet will live longer than the people who made it. In fact, this aircraft is claimed to last longer than the age of Mount Everest.
This (Blue Ghost) will be on the moon longer than the existence of Mount Everest. It's hard to think about it," said Blue Ghost Chief Technician Will Coigan, quoted by VOI from Tech crunch's recent report.
With this age estimate, of course this aircraft will be a very big mission. What's more, Blue Ghost is designed as an independent mission on the Moon. This means that the plane with a cargo of 150 kilograms will be landed on the Moon to observe the situation there.
So far, both Blue Ghost missions are held by Firefly. Both were built based on NASA'sCommercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) initiative for a total cost of 200 million US dollars or around Rp. 3 billion.
The aircraft is planned to carry a lot of payloads in three parts, namely on top of the lander to pay attention to the sky and horizon without a hitch, in the middle deck for the rover, and under the lander for access to the surface.
Reportedly, Blue Ghost will transport at least ten payloads to the Mare Crisium region in the northern part of the Moon. NASA plans to collect and sort regolits to measure the accumulation of regolite on the surface of some material.
For the creation of the Blue Ghost itself, Firefly partnered with several companies. In the Blue Ghost main engine, Firefly cooperates with Nammo. For software guidance, navigation, to landing control comes from Rocket Lab.

Meanwhile, communication on board was built by Gina totaling and vision navigation prepared by Space-ng. This collaboration requires very thorough preparation so that Firefly attracts these companies.
NASA has given 36 months to prepare the Blue Ghost until it launches. Firefly was given the freedom to determine its launch time and achievement.
So far, the Blue Ghost has only planned to land on the Moon and spend 14 days on the surface with five hours of extra time on the moon's Eve. During this timeframe, the Blue Ghost will provide electricity and communication for the payloads being carried.
