Jadi Motor Ekonomi Kerakyatan, Kemenperin Targetkan 20,000 IKM Baru Selama 2023
JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) targets the cumulative growth of 20,800 new entrepreneurs (WUB) for small and medium industries (IKM) throughout 2023 because of its role as a popular economic motor.
"IKM is a driving force for people-based economic activity. Thus, the development and strengthening of IKM not only has an economic impact, but also a real social impact," said Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita in a statement in Jakarta, quoted Friday, October 27.
Minister of Industry Agus said the increase in the number and population of WUB was carried out through various training from the managerial side to encourage the entrepreneurial spirit and the technical side of production.
Based on BPS data in 2021, the IKM population will reach 4.18 million business units, which is 99.7 percent of the total manufacturing industry business units.
The IKM sector itself is able to absorb up to 9.88 million workers or 65.51 percent of the total industrial workforce.
Until 2022, the Ministry of Industry through the Directorate General of Small, Medium, and Multifarious Industries (Ditjen IKMA) has coached 18,645 WUB or more than doubled compared to 2021 which only reached 8,019 WUB.
In addition, 7,534 WUBs have been facilitated to obtain business legality, and increased from 2021 to 5,330 WUBs.
Efforts to grow WUB by the Ministry of Industry are based on the potential resources of raw materials and local cultural wisdom.
Some time ago, when opening the Seminar on the Growth and Development of New Entrepreneurs, Small and Medium Industries in Banyuwangi Regency, Agus encouraged the area to develop coffee potential.
This is considered in line with the rampant trend of enjoying coffee among young people, so that the development of WUB is focused on processing local coffee beans.
"Banyuwangi is also known as a tourist destination that is of interest to foreign tourists. It also grows handicraft entrepreneurs as a hand for tourists, in addition to meeting the needs of hotels or resorts that are built," he said.
Meanwhile, the Director General of IKMA of the Ministry of Industry, Reni Yanita, said that the WUB training provided by the Ministry of Industry includes materials that need to be understood by these new business actors in running their business.

WUBs need provisions in legal and technical aspects to minimize obstacles that will be encountered while running a business, such as licensing, limited capital, and industrial management.
"Therefore, this seminar is expected to provide basic and motivational information for new entrepreneurs in the coffee and handicraft industry," he added.
