Qualcomm and Google Collaborate to Create Wearable Devices Using RISC-V Technology

JAKARTA - Chip design company, Qualcomm, announced on Tuesday, October 17 that it is partnering with Alphabet, Google's parent company, to produce wearable devices such as smartwatches using chips based on RISC-V technology.

RISC-V, spelled "risk five," is an open-source technology that competes with technology owned by Arm Holdings, a British chip design company.

RISC-V can be used as a key material for everything from smartphone chips to advanced processors for artificial intelligence.

American companies are still active in the development of RISC-V-based technology, despite concerns from lawmakers that China is taking advantage of the culture of open collaboration among American companies to advance its own semiconductor industry.

Qualcomm said it plans to market RISC-V-based wearable solutions globally, including in the United States.

This will help more products in the Android ecosystem take advantage of power-efficient, high-performance custom processors, according to Qualcomm.
