The Age Limit For Presidential And Vice Presidential Candidates Is 40 Years, Golkar Respects The Constitutional Court's Decision
JAKARTA The Golkar Party respects the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK) which grants the request for a minimum age limit for presidential and vice-presidential candidates of 40 years or has experience being a regional head.
This decision opens up opportunities for Gibran Rakabuming Raka as Mayor of Solo to become vice president in the 2024 presidential election.
Deputy Chairperson of the Golkar Party for Communication and Information, Nurul Arifin, stated that the Golkar Party took a stand in accordance with democratic principles and the rule of law.
"The Golkar Party respects and accepts the Constitutional Court's decision as an independent judicial institution and as an integral part of the Indonesian democratic system. The Constitutional Court's decision is part of a legal process that must be respected by all parties, including political parties," said Nurul, in a written statement, Monday, October 16.
In carrying out the political process, the Golkar Party will also ensure that all legal procedures needed in the presidential and vice presidential elections have been followed correctly and in accordance with applicable regulations. The Golkar Party remains focused on compliance with legal rules, and in this context, no rules have been violated.
Nurul also said his party would continue to communicate with other parties in the coalition to ensure that all parties have the same understanding of this situation and how they will behave in the upcoming elections.
