Persebaya Surabaya 2-3 Persib Bandung, Josep Gombau: Players Make Mistakes

JAKARTA - Persebaya Surabaya lost when they hosted Persib Bandung at Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium, Saturday, October 7. The host fell with a narrow score of 2-3.

Persebaya Surabaya coach, Josep Gombau admitted that the defeat in the 15th week of Liga 1 2023/2024 was due to several mistakes made by his team during the second half.

"Players made some mistakes and made the opposing team win the game, I admit that without compromising my respect for Persib who also played well," said Gombau.

He explained that some of the mistakes made were player guarding, how to stop the ball, and tactical implementation. "These things are the basis for football, but there have been mistakes made by the players themselves," he said, as quoted by Antara.

However, he still appreciates the players who have worked hard, especially in the first half and this defeat will be used as material for the team's evaluation.

"The goal from Persib occurred because of the mistakes of Persebaya players themselves, but not all of them were caused by defenders, especially Ernando, I already have a record list. This is the responsibility of the team, not just one or two players," he said.

Therefore, the Spaniard apologized to Bonek for not being able to present three points in the home game when he hosted the club nicknamed Maung Bandung.

"I personally apologize to the supporters who have been present at the stadium for not being able to get three points at home," he said.

In that match, Persebaya's goal came from Bruno Moreira in the 10th and 32nd minutes. While Persib's goal came from Ciro Alves in the 3rd minute and David Da Silva in the 52nd and 70th minutes.

Due to that defeat, Persebaya remained in sixth place in the standings with a total of 22 points from 15 matches. Meanwhile, Persib rose to third place in the standings with a total of 27 points from 15 matches.
