Failed To Win In Mixed Teams, Indonesian Junior Team Aims For Individuals at The 2023 Junior World Championships

JAKARTA – The Indonesian junior badminton team is aiming for the individual title at the 2023 World Junior Championships after failing in the mixed team sector last weekend.

Indonesia became runner up when playing in the Junior Mixed Team Badminton World Championship after losing 1-3 in the final against China at The Podium Arena, Spokane, Washington, United States, Saturday, September 30 local time.

The Indonesian team's hopes of winning the Suhandinata Cup were dashed after the men's doubles pair of Muhammad Al Farizi/Nikolaus Joaquin, who played in the fourth match, lost to the pair of Ma Shang/Zhu Yi Jun.

"After this we will focus on the individual. Our condition is also ready to fight. In the individual, we will play to our maximum," said Al Farizi after the defeat in a statement received.

The only points for Indonesia in the match were contributed by men's singles Alwi Farhan who played in the second match. The team captain appeared full of confidence to beat Hu Zhe An rubber game.

Alwi's victory paid off his defeat in the individual number at the 2023 Asian Junior Championships in Yogyakarta and also equalized the score after the mixed doubles Jonathan Farrell Gosal/Priskila Venus Elsadai lost in the first match.

"After this, we will prepare ourselves for the individual events. We must continue to maintain our focus and physicality because we have already competed in the team events. We must be more resilient as individuals," said Elsa after losing.

Another party that Indonesia failed to secure was the third party which was entrusted to Mutiara Ayu Puspitasari. The 2023 Asian Junior Championship champion lost against Xu Wen Jing.

The 2023 World Junior Championships will take place from 2 to 8 October. Indonesia is expected to be able to bring home the title from this prestigious event.
