IMI General Chair Supports Hyundai Ioniq 5 Cross-ASEAN State
Hyundai Ioniq 5 will conduct a Road Trip on the Indonesia - Singapore - Malaysia - Thailand - Cambodia - Vietnam route, on November 20 - December 1, 2023.
Chairman of the MPR RI as well as Chairman of the Indonesian Motor Association (IMI) Bambang Soesatyo (Bamsoet) supports the Road Trip Ioniq 5 plan which will cover a distance of about 2,751 km, by passing 30 charging stations. Involving 11 drivers from various ASEAN countries using 5 Ioniq 5 units.
"Road Trip Hyundai Ioniq 5 proves that electric vehicles have extraordinary durability in conquering various touristing fields, and can even cross-border. This event has also campaigned to various ASEAN countries about the importance of accelerating vehicle migration from electric to electric motor fuel that is environmentally friendly as well as maintaining the condition of the earth well. No wonder from the start, IMI has made Hyundai Ioniq electric vehicle as IMI's official car., "said Bamsoet after receiving the Hyundai Motor ASEAN Head Quarter representative, in Jakarta, Monday, September 25.
Also present were Director of Corporate Affairs Tri Wahono Brotosanjoyo, Head of Marketing and PR Sangwook Lee, Branding Strategic Ricky Jenyus, and DSV Forwarder (Hyundai Partner) Gabriella Manalu.
Bamsoet explained, Ioniq 5 became the most popular electric car in Indonesia. Even in August 2023, it became the best-selling electric car after recording 496 shipments from factories to dealers.
The Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (GAIKINDO) also recorded the Hyundai Ioniq 5 as the largest sales to electric car dealers in Indonesia for the January-June 2023 period, reaching 3,543 units.
"Hyundai's relationship with Indonesia has been very good. Hyundai became the first automotive manufacturer to produce electric vehicles in Indonesia, inaugurated directly by President Joko Widodo. Hyundai Motor Group also invested USD 1.5 billion or around Rp. 22 trillion in Indonesia for the construction of an electric car battery factory. So that it can provide added value for the Indonesian economy. Hyundai also provides electric vehicles for the G-20 Summit in Bali and the 2023 ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo," explained Bamsoet.

Bamsoet also explained that the government of President Joko Widodo has also issued various efforts to support the electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia. For example, the government has provided subsidies of around Rp. 70 million for electric cars provided in VAT (Value Added Tax) incentives that have been in effect since April 1, 2023.
"To get the VAT incentive, electric cars must have a domestic content level (TKDN) of at least 40 percent, as stipulated in the Minister of Finance Regulation Number 38 of 2023. In addition to attracting public interest in switching to electric vehicles because the price is increasingly affordable, as well as attracting industries to invest in producing electric vehicles in Indonesia. One of the electric vehicle manufacturers that can get these incentives is Hyundai," concluded Bamsoet.
