Floods Hit West Pasaman

SIMPANG FOUR - Floods hit a number of locations in West Pasaman Regency, West Sumatra (West Sumatra) due to the high rainfall that hit the area.

"Information that the initial flood hit the Silawai-Air Bangis area, Sungai Beremas District, which caused the flow of transportation to be disrupted until tonight, because the water level reached 0.5-1 meters," said the Head of Prevention and Preparedness of the West Pasaman Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Zulkarnain at Simpang Empat as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, September 20.

His party is currently collecting data on the number of houses affected by the flood. "Currently we are still collecting data related to flooding. From the provisional results, there were no casualties," he said.

His party has also dispatched a number of personnel to monitor the condition of a number of rivers in West Pasaman.

Heavy rains occurred from late afternoon until evening. A number of locations were inundated with water and inundated people's houses, including in Silawai Air Bangis, Simpang Pasaman Baru, Simpang Empat and Bandarjo Roundabouts.

Zulkarnain asked residents to increase their awareness of floods and landslides, because until Wednesday night the rain had not subsided.

He explained that West Pasaman has five rivers that are prone to flooding every time it rains in the area.

The five rivers that are prone to flooding are Batang Pasaman River, Sikabau Batang, Batang Bayang, Batang Batahan, and Hajj Children's River.

"Every time it rains heavily, the river always overflows and inundates the houses of local residents," he said.

BPBD asks people who are at flood-prone points to be more vigilant when the rainfall is high or it rains upstream of the river.

According to him, apart from the five large rivers, residents in hilly, mountainous areas and on the coast should also always be vigilant.

This is because West Pasaman is also prone to landslides, especially in Talamau District and is prone to abrasion on Sasak beach.
