Police Collaborate With Chinese Police To Dismantle Love Scamming Syndicate In Batam
JAKARTA - The National Police through the International Relations Division (Hubinter) revealed a syndicate of fraudulent acts with the mode of love scamming. The disclosure is the result of collaboration with the Chinese police or the Ministry of Public Security of the People's Republic of China (RRT).
"The National Police through the Divhubinter conducted a joint operation to arrest the perpetrators of love scamming in the Riau Islands today," said Head of the Public Relations Division of the National Police Inspector General Sandi Nugroho in his statement, Tuesday, August 29.
Love scamming is a type of fraud that perpetrators deceive victims emotionally through fake romantic hubs.
This fraudulent syndicate uses a luxury house as a place to act. The location is in the Cammo Industrial Park Simpang Kara Complex, Riau Islands.
Sandi said that the Direskrimsus of the Riau Islands Police, Kombes Nasriadi and the Head of the Jatinter Division, Kombes Audie S. Latuheru, led the prosecution of the case.
Then, the process of prosecuting the fraud syndicate was 8 personnel from the Ministry of Public Security of China.
Returning to the disclosure process, dozens of love scamming perpetrators were arrested. They are suspected to be residents of the RRT based in Batam City, Riau Islands.
"The perpetrator of the RRT foreigner with details of the gender of 83 men and 5 female genders was arrested in the Cammo Industrial Park Simpang Kara area," he said.

From the results of the temporary investigation, the victims of love scamming are in China. However, it is possible that Indonesian citizens (WNI) will also become victims. Therefore, Interpol and the Riau Islands Police (Kepri) are investigating it.
"If there are no victims of Indonesian citizens, they will be deported to China. If there is (a citizen victim) it will be linked between the victim and the perpetrator, who of the 88 perpetrators have been arrested and will not be returned (to China), but processed by law in Indonesia," he said.
This cooperation or joint operation between the National Police and China is a concrete step and a follow-up to the results of the 17th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime (AMMTC) in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).
