Former Makassar PDAM Official Suspect Of Corruption Will Soon Be Tried

The South Sulawesi High Prosecutor's Team together with the Makassar District Attorney's Office handed over the case files and evidence of three new defendants for alleged corruption in the use of funds from the Makassar City Drinking Water Company for the 2016-2019 period.

"The case file has been transferred today (Tuesday), just waiting for the schedule for the inaugural trial determined by the Panel of Judges at the Makassar District Court," said Head of the Information and Legal Section of the South Sulawesi Prosecutor's Office, Soetarmi, in Makassar, as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, August 22.

The three former directors have been named as suspects in the alleged corruption case in the use of funds from the Makassar City PDAM company for payment of bonuses and bonuses/production services since 2017-2019, and the insurance premium for AJB Bumi Putera to be used as mayor and deputy mayor in 2016-2019.

The three defendants are the former President Director of PDAM Makassar City for 2018-2019 profit Hamzah Ahmad (HA), Acting Director of Finance PDAM Makassar City 2019 for 2018 profit Tiro Paranoan (TP), and Director of Finance PDAM Makassar City 2020 for 2019 profit Asdar Ali (AA).

From the actions of the defendants, it is suspected that it resulted in financial losses in the Makassar City area, especially the Makassar City PDAM with a total value of Rp. 20.3 billion.

The Prosecutor's Office is of the opinion that the results of the investigation of the Special Crimes Division of the South Sulawesi Prosecutor's Office have completed the formal and material requirements so that prosecutions can be carried out to the Corruption Court for immediate trial.

The three were charged as described and threatened with criminal charges in the primary indictment and subsidiary Article 2 paragraph (1) and Article 3 in conjunction with Article 18 of Law Number 20 of 2021 years as amended and supplemented by Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption, in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) of the 1st Criminal Code.

Previously, the South Sulawesi Prosecutor's Office demanded that the defendants former Directors of PDAM Makassar Haris Yasin Limpo and Irawan Abadi, who were undergoing trial for alleged corruption in the use of PDAM funds for 11 years in prison.

In addition to imposing a prison sentence, the two defendants were fined to pay Rp. 500 million or a subsidiary of six months in prison. Sentencing the two defendants to pay compensation to the state in the amount of Rp. 12.4 billion.
