Indonesian 78th Anniversary Gift, PHE Successfully Reduced Carbon Emissions Beyond Target

PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE) as Pertamina's Upstream Subholding has successfully recorded an emission reduction until July 2023 reaching 480 Kilo Ton C02eq or 110 percent of the target last July which was carried out both from the Regional and Subsidiaries affiliated.

PHE's Director of Development and Production, Awang Lazuardi, conveyed the company's strategy in supporting decarbonization.

"PHE has run 6 pillars of decarbonization, namely energy demand & efficacy, gas recovery & asset integrity, low carbon power, low carbon heat, CCUS / CCS and offsetting through natural based solution. PHE's achievement is one proof of Pertamina Hulu's commitment to carrying out decarbonization in conjunction with the implementation of work programs to support national energy security," said Awang, in a written statement, Sunday, August 20.

Pertamina's Upstream Subholding is consistent and committed to supporting the Government's program to achieve a 29 percent emission reduction target by 2030 and Net Zero Emission by 2060.

In addition to the inauguration of the CO2 injection trial which was carried out in October 2022 at Pertamina EP Jatibarang Field, several work programs to support decarbonization were also carried out in Pertamina's Upstream Subholding environment.

"Regional Sumatra has a project to optimize the utilization of flare gas for turbine fuel in 2 operating facilities and the construction of the WK Rokan phase 1 solar power plant in collaboration with Pertamina Power Indonesia," Awang added.

In addition, PHE also optimizes the operation of fuel gas which is carried out in stages every year and low carbon fuel switching through the use of B30 biosolar as fuel for marine fleets in Mahakam.

This existing decarbonization program is the first phase while placing fundamentals for phase 2 and 3 related to the implementation of ccs ccus and carbon trading which includes the PHE ESG strategy pillar.

PHE as Pertamina's Upstream Subholding has also been registered with the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) as a participant/member since June 2022.
