4 Days Of Fire In Ex-TPA Panembong Can't Be Extinguished

Sub-Department - Officers are still trying to extinguish the fire that has occurred in the last few days on the land of the former Panembong Final Disposal Site (TPA), Subang Regency, West Java Province.

"The fire has been going on for four days, and now we and other agencies are still trying to extinguish the fire that burned the former Panembong TPA land," said Head of the Subang Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Udin Jazudin when contacted by ANTARA, Thursday, August 10.

He said that the fire, which includes land located in Caringin Village, Parung Village, Subang District, became big because the wind was quite strong.

According to him, the former Panembong TPA land burned has now reached about six hectares.

Firefighters together with BPBD personnel, the Indonesian Red Cross, the Disaster Preparedness Cadet, and other relevant agencies are trying to extinguish the fire that occurred on the land and prevent fires from spreading to the residents' plantation areas.

In order to support efforts to extinguish land fires, the Subang Regency Government operates all fire engines and lowers a number of water tankers.

The cause of the fire on the former land of the Panembong TPA is not yet known.

Udin appealed to residents to increase their vigilance and not to take actions that could trigger fires during the dry season.

"We urge the public to be careful and alert, such as not throwing cigarette butts carelessly. We also convey that for the time being people do not burn land because it is very vulnerable," he said.
