Menpora Review The Number Of Indonesian Athletes At The 2023 Asian Games, What's The Reason?
JAKARTA - The number of Indonesian athletes who will appear at the 2023 Asian Games will still be reviewed. This is done so that there are no errors in preparing the departing contingent formation.
This was conveyed by the Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Dito Ariotedjo. He said the review of the Asian Games contingent paid attention to the aspect of potential medals from the leading sports sector.
This is done so that the achievement obtained by the Red and White team is maximized and also gets more quota at the 2024 Olympics.
"Incidentally yesterday was our first meeting related to the review of the Asian Games, after KONI with its new management and also KOI with its new management," said Dito.
"I ask once again to really review, make sure the potential. I don't want any mistakes in calculating or seeing the assumptions," he continued, as quoted by Antara.
Indonesia's achievements at sporting events throughout Asia were last quite proud, by taking fourth place in the medal standings in the 2018 edition. Indonesia's position is below China, Japan, and South Korea, by collecting 31 gold, 24 silver and 43 bronze medals.
"So what is certain is that the quota does not look at the actual amount, but more to me I ask for the target and the potential for medals to be calculated, because the benchmark is like that and we also have to calculate in addition to this achievement. What we need to prioritize in order to achieve the Olympic pass," explained Dito.
Dito explained that currently, Entry by name has been running with the number reaching almost 600 athletes from 32 sports.
"If the entry by name was carried out yesterday, we were reported with a large amount of money, but the certainty that the final will depart depends on the second review. The largest entry by name is registered at almost 600 out of 32 sports," concluded Dito.
Please note, the 2023 Asian Games Hangzhou, China, from September 23 to October 8.
