Can Cooperate With Government Coalition To Become Criteria For PAN Presidential And Vice Presidential Candidates
Deputy General Chairperson (Waketum) of PAN Viva Yoga Mauladi said his party would decide on the names of presidential and vice-presidential candidates supported in the 2024 presidential election in the coming weeks.
"PAN will decide on a candidate pair in the presidential election in the coming weeks. Officially it will be announced by the General Chair of PAN, Bang Zulkifli Hasan (Chairman of PAN)," Viva told reporters when contacted in Jakarta, Tuesday, July 25, which was confiscated by Antara.
Viva said PAN has two principles in determining the candidate pair (paslon) for presidential and vice-presidential candidates he will carry in the 2024 presidential election.
First, he said, the presidential and vice presidential candidates could form a coalition or cooperate with government-supporting parties.
Second, he continued, he will carry candidate pairs that have a high level of electability.
"Or there is a mix of candidate pairs that have the potential to increase the basis of constituents so that it will increase the sound of victory," he said.
Although the registration of candidate pairs and vice presidential candidates will only be opened in October, Viva stated that PAN provides support to the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir.
"Mas Erick is a candidate promoted by PAN from the results of the 2020 PAN National Working Meeting. For PAN, Mas Erick is a personification of PAN because his blood is blue," he said.
According to him, Erick has high electability as a future vice presidential figure, as the results of the latest survey by the Indonesian Political Indicators survey institute released on Sunday, July 23. So, he added, it will be able to increase the accumulation or increase the electability of candidate pairs in the future.
"I think this is something good and worthy of appreciation because Mas Erick's performance as SOE minister and activities outside the government go hand in hand with increasing his likeability and electability," he said.
