Nissan Leaf Acceleration Suddenly, Nissan Recalls 66 Thousand Units
JAKARTA - Among Japanese automotive manufacturers, Nissan is one of the most advanced in the development of electrified vehicles. Nissan's success in presenting the Nissan Leaf in 2010 proves its dedication in presenting environmentally friendly electric cars.
As one of the electric vehicles with the most sales, the Nissan Leaf has managed to sell more than 577,000 units worldwide for more than a decade. However, like other innovative products, the Leaf also did not escape the challenge.
The latest news reported by Carscoops, Thursday, July 20, states that the Nissan Leaf is experiencing problems that require serious attention, especially related to vehicle acceleration. Although the Nissan Leaf is not the fastest car in its segment, this issue is an important highlight.
The acceleration problem arises when the driving mode is changed, for example from D to B mode which increases regenerative braking or when the driver switches to Eco mode after the cruise control system is turned off. Suddenly, the car begins to accelerate quickly without orders from the driver.
This problem was successfully detected by Nissan's team of engineers in an internal testing in December 2021. Although there were no reports from Nissan Leaf owners regarding this issue, Nissan took serious action to find a source of the problem.
The computer testing and simulation process was carried out to replicate the sudden acceleration event. As a result, Nissan found that the problem lies in a fault programming of car control modules in a number of Nissan Leaf units in the US, with a total of 66,159 units from 2018 to 2023 production.
Luckily there were no reports of injuries or injuries as a result of this problem. However, Nissan still wants to ensure the safety and comfort of his loyal users.
As a quick and precise step, Nissan announced the recall program and urged all affected Nissan Leaf owners to immediately visit the official dealers. There, vehicle owners will get a free car control module reprogram.
