2 People Died As a Result of a Ship Accident on the Situbondo-Sumenep Route
SITUBONDO - Two people died and three people were reported missing due to a cargo ship accident on the Situbondo-Sumenep route in the East Java region on Wednesday (19/7) night.
The Putri Kuning Motor Sailing Boat (KLM) had an accident while transporting building materials from Panarukan Harbor in Situbondo Regency to Giliraja Island in Sumenep Regency, Madura Island.
"On Tuesday (18/7) this wooden ship departed from Situbondo and on Wednesday (19/7) yesterday from the statement of the victim the ship hit the RIG Santos wall, then leaked and sank," said Jember SAR Post member Jefri as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, July 20.
"Two passengers were found dead in the vicinity of RIG Santos, while the other three passengers have not been found," he said.
The two passengers on the ship who died were from Situbondo, namely Sumarni, a resident of Kendit District, and Sima, a resident of Bungatan District.
The bodies of the ship accident victims who died are still on Giliraja Island and are planned to be taken to the funeral home on Thursday.

According to Jefri, the victims of the ship accident who have not been found consist of Barnawi (a resident of Panarukan District in Situbondo), Jumarwi (a resident of Kendit District in Situbondo), and a nine year old child named Irianti, the daughter of Sumarni, a passenger on the ship who died.
Meanwhile, the five people who survived the ship accident were Saruji (skipper), Subairi (ABK), and three passengers on the ship which included a resident of Jember, a resident of Sumenep, and a resident of Situbondo.
