Revitalization Of Medan Telan Budget Exemplary Stadium IDR 560 Billion
The renovation of the Teladan Stadium in Medan City, North Sumatra, is scheduled to begin in October 2023. This project cost more than IDR 560 billion.
Head of the Medan City Settlement, Cipta Karya and Spatial Planning Housing Agency, Endar Sutan Lubis, said that this revitalization was not only a stadium, but also an area around the stadium.
"It is possible that the Ministry of PUPR (Public Works and Public Housing) will accommodate a budget of Rp. 300 billion, the rest will be accommodated in the Medan City Budget," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, July 18.
However, he continued, his party will make efficiency in the budget under discussion while entering the finalization stage of the Detail Engineering Design (DED).
Based on DED in a meeting in May, the Teladan Stadium, which is also the home of the PSMS Medan football club, will be renovated into a closed stadium with a capacity of around 20,000 seats.
The Ministry of PUPR said the physical construction of the renovation of the Medan Exemplary Stadium which was built in 1952 and operated in 1953 was targeted for completion by the end of 2024.
"Hopefully, in the not too distant future, we can finalize this DED. God willing, this year the revitalization of the Exemplary Stadium will be realized," he said.
Endar explained the concept of stadium revitalization which was completed in 1953 ahead of the National Sports Week III and has the potential to be designated as a cultural heritage because it is more than 50 years old.
So that the physical revitalization of the stadium will involve cultural heritage experts to design, so that the values of the Teladan Stadium cultural heritage do not disappear.
"One example, the tower at the Teladan Stadium remains and the old building on the front as much as possible is maintained. We use modern designs combined with old buildings," he explained.
His party also said that the planning for the revitalization of the Teladan Stadium had met FIFA and AFC standards, therefore this stadium could hold FIFA standard matches, including final matches.

Because based on FIFA standards, stadiums that can hold FIFA matches have a capacity of more than 30,000 spectators, while Exemplary Stadiums only have a capacity of 20,000 spectators.
"For the standard AFC match, the Teladan Stadium can and including as the host," he explained.
Reflecting on the chaos that occurred at the Kanjuruhan Stadium, Malang, some time ago, Endar revealed, he had done his best for the safety of the audience.
"God willing, all of them have met the standard. For the evacuation route, 15 minutes the audience has been able to leave the stadium because there are many doors," he added.
