Ford Fiesta No Longer Produced, May Return As EV

JAKARTA - Ford has stopped production of Fiesta, one of its best-selling models in the world. The last fiesta was produced on July 7, 2023 at the Cologne plant, Germany.

The reason Ford stopped production of Fiesta is to focus on the production of electric vehicles. The Cologne plant will be changed to produce the Ford Explorer EV electric vehicle for the European market.

Although Fiesta has stopped production, Ford does not rule out reviving this model in the future. Ford is exploring the possibility of relaborating Fiesta as an electric vehicle built on the Volkswagen MEB platform.

This was revealed by Martin Sander, the boss of Ford Europe, hinting at the possibility of the project happening. Moreover, Ford will also take advantage of its collaboration with Volkswagen Group as a platform supplier.

"Ford has very constructive and positive cooperation with Volkswagen and we may be exploring opportunities to take it to the next level," Sander said.

The MEB platform is an electric vehicle platform used by a number of Volkswagen Group models, including ID.3 and ID.4. The platform will also be used to build Capri, Ford's second electric car to be produced in Europe.

Ford plans to become a pure electric car brand in Europe by 2030. The company targets to sell 600,000 electric cars annually by 2026.

Fiesta has been produced for 47 years and has become one of the best-selling cars in the UK. The car held the top spot in the UK market for 11 consecutive years between 2009 and 2020.

The shutdown of Fiesta production is part of Ford's transformation into an electric car brand. The company has invested billions of dollars in electric vehicle development and plans to offer at least 10 electric car models in Europe by 2025.
