Discord Introduces Family Center, A Feature That Allows Parents To Control Their Children's Activities
JAKARTA - Discord introduced a new feature called the Family Center. This feature will allow parents to learn more about who their children are friends with and talk on their platforms.
"Similar to how parents know who their children are friends with and what clubs they attend at school, this Family Center helps them learn more about who their teens are friends with and talk to Discord," the company wrote in its announcement on Tuesday, July 11.
Discord revealed that the Family Center is a new participation tool that makes it easier for children to tell their parents and guardians about their Dispute activities, but while respecting their own autonomy.

The purpose of launching this feature itself is to help encourage habits of using the internet that are safer, as well as to create mutually beneficial ways for parents and children on the internet.
"Everyone's online security needs and expectations vary, which is why we invest widely in a wide range of tools and resources to support our users," he added.
The Family Center has two main components: dashboard of activity accessible from Discord, and a weekly email summary containing information about their teenage activities.

Although parents will be able to see which Discord community and users are talking to their children, parents/guardians will not be able to see the contents of the conversation themselves, in order to protect the child's privacy.
Similar to Google's Family Link, to start with the Family Center on Discord, parents and children must complete settings through the app. Because the Family Center will not be enabled if there is no agreement between the two parties.
Parents should ask their child's QR code to be easily created at the Family Center. Once the arrangement process is complete, teens will be notified when parents are connected.
