Threads Coming Soon With Chronological Feed Features And Other Major Changes

Threads have confirmed that major updates will be available soon, less than a week after launching with a brilliant sales record.

An alternative feed will soon be present in the new Meta app, which allows users to scroll through the content they follow in chronological order.

This will be a drastic change of current choice, where there is only one homepage featuring recommended submission combinations and 'threads' from those followed.

It will also make Threads more similar to its competitor, Twitter, which currently allows users to switch between compiled feeds and the content they follow.

This change was confirmed by Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, who responded to a Threads post by technology YouTuber Marques Brownlee last week.

"As long as these big bosses actively listen to feedback... a special homepage for people you follow will be [hand emoji with index finger and cross-finger]," Brownlee wrote on his Threads account.

Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg gave a positive response before Mosseri commented. "It's on the list," Zuckerberg said.

This anticipated chronological feed option will make Threads in line with other Meta, Instagram and Facebook social media applications.

This feature was re-presented on Instagram last year, after it was previously deleted six years ago to provide a place for compiled feeds.

This decision was welcomed by loyal Instagram users, some of whom expressed their fatigue in 'interacting with posts that were three days ago'.

However, this isn't the only feature expected to be present in Threads, which has reached 100 million registrations at the end of last week.

Brownlee recommends another change to the new platform that is once again getting Mosseri's attention.

"Threads needs an easy place to find a post you've seen before," Brownlee wrote.

"You can like things, but there's no place to see what you like. And the search feature only displays current accounts, not posts. I saw a previous good post from someone I didn't follow and is now missing," he wrote.

A few days ago, Mosseri admitted that a number of other basic features still do not exist in this application. This includes the ability to use hashtags, send messages to other users, and see popular posts.

Users also realize that they cannot permanently delete the app without sacrificing Instagram either - because the two platforms are interrelated.

Alternatively, Instagram guidelines suggest 'always deleting individual posts', setting profiles private, or blocking other users.

In response to this, Mosseri wrote: "I got some questions about deleting your account."

"To explain, you can deactivate the Threads account, which hides your Threads profile and content, you can set your profile private, and you can delete threads individually - all of that without deleting your Instagram account."

"Threads is powered by Instagram, so there is currently only one account, but we are looking for ways to separate Threads accounts," Mosseri said.

In a separate post, he added that he would 'take the time' to introduce other basic features in Threads.

"The real test is not whether we can create a big hype, but do you all find enough value in this application to continue to use it over time," he said.

"And there are still a lot of basic features missing: search, hashtags, followed feeds, graphic synchronization, Fediverse support, maybe messages... We've been working on it. Our amazing team is working hard. But with full transparency, it will take some time," Mosseri added.
