Couples Of Pickpockets At PRJ Admit Their Actions After Being Questioned By TNI Members
The Central Jakarta Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit is still investigating two cellphone pickpockets who were caught red-handed while in action in the Jakarta Fair Kemayoran (JFK) or Pekan Raya Jakarta (PRJ) area, JIExpo Kemayoran, Central Jakarta.
Unfortunately, the two perpetrators turned out to be a married couple.
"That's right, husband and wife. The two perpetrators are Edi Ismanto and Cawati. Both have been named suspects," said Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Central Jakarta Metro Police AKBP Hady Siagian, Sunday, June 25.
AKBP Hady explained that the pickpocketing incident occurred on Friday, June 23 at around 19.29 WIB.
That night, the two witnesses named Baharudin and Fajar approached the suspect and asked the suspect named Edi Ismanto, "you took my cellphone?".
However, the suspect Edi Ismanto denied that he did not take the witness' cellphone. Suspect Edi also challenged the witness to search him. Furthermore, by witness Fajar, the suspect Caswati refused to be searched. Then forced by witness Fajar and found 3 cell phones from the waist of the suspect Caswati.
Witness Baharudin again asked the suspect Edi, who is this phone. Then Edi said he did not know. Witness Fajar then shouted until other visitors arrived and arrested the suspects Edi and Caswati.
"The suspect was then taken to the visitor entrance. Then the suspect was searched by members of the TNI who were on duty. Then the suspect Edi admitted that he had taken someone's cellphone," he said.

The two suspects were then taken to the security post and again interrogated by the TNI and Military Police (PM) personnel.
"The suspect admitted that he (stealed) his cellphone but did not know who the victim was. Then the two suspects were taken by police officers to the Central Jakarta Police Headquarters," he said.
Previously, it was reported that visitors to the Jakarta Fair or Jakarta Raya Week exhibition at JIExpo Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, were shocked by the pickpocket action allegedly carried out by a middle-aged pair of perpetrators on Friday night, June 23.
The perpetrator's action was caught by the victim who owned the cellphone and there was a commotion. The incident caused a stir among other visitors.
