Problem With Front Seats, BMW Withdraws Series-7 And I7
JAKARTA - The latest model from BMW Series-7 is facing a problem requiring manufacturers to recall about 300 vehicles in the United States (US). The withdrawal was carried out due to the discovery of an error in the front seat of the car.
Information gathered from the Carscoops page on Monday, June 19, states that the installation system on the chair may not be installed according to the specifications it should be. If an accident occurs, the seat structure may not be able to withstand properly, thereby increasing the risk of injury for drivers and passengers.
There are 318 vehicles affected in this recall. These vehicles are certain Series-7 and i7, which may not be the product of a BMW supplier, Brose, based in the Czech Republic.
The BMW manufacturer realized the potential for this problem in early May when it conducted a technical development test involving future types of vehicles. They noticed that seat seats moved in an unusual way during testing. This suspicion prompted BMW to carry out further investigations.
After collaborating with its suppliers to understand the issue, BMW discovered that there was a shortage in the installation involving a seat-tuning system, due to high demand for production.
Some of the affected models include xDrive 2023 740i and 760i as many as 289 units, produced between November 30, 2022, and January 18, 2023. In addition, there are also 29 i7 xDrive60 2023 models, produced from December 6, 2022 to December 19, 2022.
To date, there have been no reports of accidents or injuries having occurred as a result of this problem. BMW will announce a notification to customers starting July 31.
The BMW manufacturer will give instructions to affected vehicle owners to take their cars to the official dealers to check the front seat and replace the seat structure if needed.
