Indonesia Open 2023: Jonathan Christie And Leo/Daniel Add Host Representatives In Quarter Finals
JAKARTA Jonatan Christie managed to secure tickets for the quarter-finals of the Indonesia Open 2023 after a dramatic win against France's Toma Junior Popov. The Indonesian men's singles made a sensational comeback through a three-game battle.
Jonathan rose from the loss of the first game to force Toma to lift his suitcase from Istora Stadium, Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday, June 15, 2023 evening WIB, with the final score of matches 19-21, 21-11, and 21-11.
"The crowd played very well. The first game was superior, but followed his pattern of playing so he could get a few points and was confident. In the second game I was calmer and took advantage of the length of the field," said the player who is familiarly called Jojo.
The victory over the French representatives above made Jonathan successful in maintaining his sweet record. The owner of the 2018 Asian Games gold medal currently holds a 3-0 win-loss record over Toma. Jonatan Christie's move was successfully followed by the men's doubles Leo Rolly Carnando/Daniel Marthin. The pair qualified for the quarter-finals after stopping eighth-seeded Malaysian representatives Ong Yew Sin/Teo Ee Yi, 22-20 and 21-17.
"The malaysia defenders are very good, but we apply the pattern well from the coach. We are grateful. This victory spurred our motivation to play better," said Daniel.
Before the two representatives above, tickets for the quarter-finals for Indonesia had previously secured mixed doubles Rinov Rivaldy/Pitha Haningtyas Mentari. They decided on Tan Kian Meng/Lai Pei Jing's dream.
The mixed doubles Praveen Jordan/Melati Daeva Oktavianti, Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto/Lisa Ayu Kusumawati, and the women's singles Kusuma Wardani must be restrained.
