Jokowi Discusses Citizenship Permit Scheme Through Investment With Minister

JAKARTA - President Jokowi plans to discuss the implementation of the Golden Visa policy or a residence and citizenship permit scheme through investment. Discussions with ministers at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, Monday, May 29.

Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Uno said the policy was to attract more quality talents in the field of digitalization, health, research and technology.

"We hope that it can increase not only investment but also employment," said Sandiaga, who was also involved in the discussion.

Based on the Setkab.go,id page, the definition of Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), Golden Visa is a Stay Permit Scheme through Investment ("Residency by Investment" and Citizenship) through Investment ("Citizenship by Investment") or often referred to as "Golden Passport".

This policy is a policy implemented by a country through the mechanism of providing residence permit facilities or citizens to foreign nationals (WNA) through investment or paying a certain amount of money.

"Golden Visa" holders will enjoy exclusive benefits that visa holders in general do not receive, such as procedures and requirements for visa applications and immigration matters more easily and quickly, mobility with multiple entries, longer stay period, right to own assets within the country, as well as being a fast track route for applying for citizenship.

The "Golden Visa" scheme is expected to attract more foreign investment into various instruments.

Sandiaga said the "Golden Visa" policy would be launched in a short time. According to him, currently there are many needs for various talents in terms of the digital economy.

He said the "Golden Visa" policy is expected to make Indonesia the epicenter of future economic movement, including sustainability.

He said "Golden Visa" will have a period of five to 10 years and is expected to be a game changer or change the game map and become something different that will bring more tourists, both called digital nomads and fields related to digital entrepreneurs who will invest in Indonesia.

"Therefore, all will prepare and will soon be announced by the government," he explained.

Sandi said that the government would ensure the legal umbrella of the policy. According to him, the legal umbrella and derivative regulations will soon be announced by the Ministry of Law and Human Rights.
