Meta Will Get Startup AR Magic Leap To Beat Apple's Pro Reality Headset
JAKARTA - Meta is reportedly eyeing a golden deal with startup specialist Augmented Reality (AR), in order to outperform Apple's market.
That company is said to be Magic Leap, which is now in talks to enter into a multi-year agreement with Meta.
However, it is not to produce a co-developed headset. Rather it could benefit Meta, where the company will have the ability to access some of the AR intellectual property and the Magic Leap creation process.
In addition, Meta can also use its supply chain and manufacturing capabilities in North America for future products.

According to a Financial Times report, quoted from Engadget, Monday, May 22, the move was made also because Meta aims to expand its VR technology, specifically the popular Oculus device, which is now renamed Meta VR.
Thus enabling the technology giant based in Menlo Park, California, USA to produce more VR headsets domestically.
By joining Magic Leap, Meta can combine its Virtual Reality (VR) expertise with its advanced AR technology, in order to enhance its immersive experiences, and stay at the forefront of the industry.
However, for more ambitious goals, this partnership is also Meta's response to the launch of Apple's AR/VR headset dubbed Reality Pro, which will soon debut at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June 2023.
