President Jokowi Is Right, It Takes Great Will And Revolution To Stop The Russia-Ukraine Conflict

JAKARTA President Jokowi continues to call for peace action for Russia-Ukraine in a number of international meetings. According to him, it is fitting for Indonesia to take part in the issue of peace and humanity. Because, this is a form of constitutional mandate, contributing to the creation of world peace.

When Indonesia became the G20 Presidency, at the end of June 2022, Jokowi visited Kyiv and Moscow to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

To the two leaders, Jokowi ensured that Indonesia was ready to become a bridge of communication between Ukraine and Russia. Indonesia has no interest whatsoever unless it wants to see the war can be completed soon and the supply chain of food, fertilizer, and energy can be repaired immediately.

I invite all world leaders to work together to revive the spirit of multilateralism, the spirit of peace. and the spirit of cooperation. Only with this spirit peace can be achieved," he said.

When opening the G20 Summit in Bali last November, Jokowi repeated his statement in a more outspoken language. Collaborative paradigms are needed to save the world. All have responsibilities, not only for their respective citizens, but also for the world community.

Being responsible here also means we have to end the war. If war doesn't end, it will be difficult for the world to move forward. If war doesn't end, it will be difficult for us to be responsible for the future of the present generation and future generations. We shouldn't divide the world into parts. We shouldn't let the world fall into a cold war anymore," Jokowi asserted.

However, the joint efforts made to resolve the war, according to Jokowi, have not shown significant developments to date. Instead of easing, distrust is even more thickening and rivalry is getting worse.

All parties want a peaceful, stable, and prosperous world. However, the current situation is not in line with this. In the end, the war will only sacrifice the people.

That is why, during the ninth G7 Summit at the Grand Prince Hotel, Hiroshima, Japan, on May 21, 2023, Jokowi called for, "As leaders we must have the courage and willingness to carry out a great revolution to bring change and improvement so that war can be stopped."

The Russian invasion of Ukraine has occurred since February 24, 2022. Although various mediation efforts have been carried out, there are no signs that the war will end until now.

Putin in the 19th Annual Meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club in Moscow on October 27, 2022, stated that he never regretted the policies he had taken against Ukraine. Because, this is solely to safeguard Russia's sovereignty. Maintain the threats that may come from other parties.

The wishes of the President of Ukraine who wants to join NATO are considered a serious threat to his country's sovereignty. From the start, Putin was very aware of the increasingly widespread movements of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in Eastern Europe.

Moscow is always ready to negotiate to end the conflict in Ukraine. What about Kyiv? According to Putin, they are the ones who do not want to launch negotiations with Russia.

"It would be very easy to solve this problem if Washington signaled Kyiv to change its position and resolve the issue peacefully," he said.

On the other hand, as an independent country, President Zelensky also has the freedom to determine for himself the direction of his foreign policy. On a number of occasions, he always emphasized that Ukraine would never give up on Russia.

NATO and the European UNI have implemented a number of war-stopping strategies. Instead of improving, the sanctions imposed by European UNI countries are actually exacerbating the situation, disrupting food supply chains and energy throughout the world.

The prices of the energy sector that are Russia's mainstay include oil, coal, and gas rising non-stop. The energy sector stocks managed to fly high amid the downward trend in the Composite Stock Price Index. Throughout the year as of May 11, 2022, energy stocks shot up to 36 percent.

Likewise, agricultural commodities such as wheat, soybeans, and others have also soared due to the high price of energy commodities.

The German Institute of Economics estimates the Russian-Ukraine war has cost the world economy more than $1.6 trillion. It will increase by $1 trillion if the war protracted in 2023

This condition will certainly trigger other impacts, such as weakening investment and the occurrence of hyperinflation.

Sri Lanka feels it. Inflation skyrocketed 54.6 percent year on year and left the country in a state of near bankruptcy. As many as 25 other countries, according to the economic review institute, Visual Capitalist had the same fate. Among others, Ghana, Tunisia, Pakistan, and El Salvador

A total of 25 countries that are threatened with bankruptcy come from data on four calculation metrics, namely government bond yields, 5 years Credit Default Swap (CDS), interest expense as a percentage of gross domestic product (GDP), and government debt as a percentage of GDP.

"Let's make changes together. Peace, stability, and prosperity are shared responsibility and goals," President Jokowi stressed.
