Aceh Jaya Regency Government Normalizes River Estuary To Prevent Floods
BANDA ACEH - The Aceh Jaya Regency Government (Pemkab) plans to normalize the river mouth as a short-term effort to overcome floods that have continued to occur due to heavy rains and overflowing river water.
"One of the efforts we can do is normalize the river estuary which causes inundation and flooding," said Acting Regent of Aceh Jaya Nurdin as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, May 8.
Nurdin explained that for the medium term the Aceh Jaya Government had also made a report to the Aceh Governor to immediately carry out flood prevention there. Given that the river is under the authority of the province.
"Last night, we coordinated with the Aceh Disaster Management Agency (BPBA) and immediately received support from personnel and assistance from the province," he said.
Currently, said Nurdin, his party has also coordinated with the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) and requested emergency response assistance and rehabilitation of the reconstruction.
"Alhamdulillah, BNPB has also agreed to help repair the embankment on the banks of the river damaged by the flood," said Nurdin.

Nurdin said that in the past two days there have been seven sub-districts affected by flooding in Aceh Jaya, namely Darul Hikmah, Indra Jaya, Sampoiniet, Krueng Sabee, Panga, Pasie Raya, and Teunom.
Currently, the average flooding in the area has begun to recede, except in Pasie Raya, Teunom, and Darul Hikmah sub-districts which are still submerged.
"We also hope that the public will remain alert to further flooding which can occur at some time, especially since the current weather in Aceh Jaya is still in the rainy season," said Nurdin.
