Indonesian Embassy Prosecutor's Attache Identify 20 Indonesian Citizens Victims Of TIP In Myanmar

The Attorney General's Office at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) for Thailand in Bangkok has identified 20 Indonesian citizens (WNI) suspected of being victims of trafficking in persons in Myanmar to speed up the repatriation process.

Head of the Legal Information Center (Kapuspenkum) of the Indonesian Attorney General's Office Ketut Sumedana said the Attorney General's Attache was working with the Thai authorities where 20 Indonesian citizens were evacuated from Myawaddy, Myanmar.

"The Prosecutor's Atase together with local authorities moved quickly to identify victims to speed up the process of repatriating 20 informal workers from Indonesia in Myanmar," said Ketut, quoted by ANTARA, Monday, May 8.

According to Ketut, the Thai authorities recognized the 20 Indonesian citizens as victims, after being rescued by local networks.

Not only that, continued Ketut, the Attorney General's Attache at the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok together with the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok and related elements involving authorities in Thailand also negotiated and mitigated the potential legal and immigration problems faced by the 20 Indonesian citizens.

The results of the examination of the case are known that the 20 workers from Indonesia entered the Thai area legally, but illegally crossed into Myanmar.

"Therefore, intensive coordination with the Thai authorities is needed to avoid further legal problems," said Ketut.

The latest developments regarding the condition of the 20 Indonesian citizens, said Ketut, are all safe and under the protection of the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok.

In the future, the 20 Indonesian citizens will be repatriated.

"We highly appreciate the local network in collaboration with the Indonesian Embassy in Yangon and the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok for rescuing 20 informal workers from Indonesia in Myanmar," said Ketut.

As previously reported, 20 Indonesian citizens suspected of being victims of trafficking have been evacuated from Myadwaddy, Myanmar to Thailand on Saturday (6/5).
