Proven To Accept Bribery, Former Yogyakarta Mayor Sentenced To 7 Years In Prison
YOGYAKARTA - Former Mayor of Yogyakarta Haryadi Suyuti was sentenced to seven years in prison in a bribery case related to the issuance of building permits (IMB) for Royal Kedhaton Apartments and Iki Wae/Aston Malioboro Hotels.
The verdict was read out by the Chairman of the Panel of Judges M. Djauhar Setyadi during the verdict hearing held at the Yogyakarta District Court (PN).
"Sentenced the defendant Haryadi Suyuti with imprisonment for seven years and a fine of 300 million rupiah with the provision that if the fine is not paid, it will be replaced with imprisonment for four months," Djauhar said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, February 28.
Djauhar stated that Haryadi was convincingly and legally guilty of committing the crime of corruption in receiving a number of goods and money to smooth the issuance of the IMB for Royal Kedhaton Apartments and Iki Wae/Aston Malioboro Hotels in the 2019-2022 period.
In the case of issuing the Royal Kedhaton IMB, Haryadi was deemed proven to have received a gift from PT Summarecon Agung Tbk (SMRA) Real Estate Vice President, Oon Nusihono through the President Director of PT Java Orient Property, Dandan Jaya Kartika.
"It has been proven legally and convincingly guilty of committing a criminal act of corruption jointly and continuously as stated in the indictment," said Djauhar.
Haryadi was also required to pay compensation of IDR 165 million. If not paid within 1 month after the decision has permanent legal force, the property will be confiscated and auctioned off.
"If the convict does not have sufficient property to pay compensation, he will be sentenced to two years in prison," he said.
In addition to imprisonment and a fine, Haryadi was also given an additional sentence in the form of revocation of the right to be elected to public office for five years from the time he finished serving his sentence.
Haryadi's actions are considered to fulfill the elements of the indictment of Article 12 letter a, in conjunction with Article 18 of Law Number 31/1999 as amended by Law Number 20/2001 in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) 1st of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 64 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code.

The sentence for the former Mayor of Yogyakarta was heavier than the demands of the former Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Public Prosecutor (JPU), namely 6.5 years in prison.
Djauhar said that the evidence in the case against Haryadi was returned to the prosecutor for the trial of the other defendants on behalf of Nurwidihartana and Triyanto Budi Yuwono.
Haryadi Suyiti through his online legal advisors and the KPK Prosecutors have not planned to take other legal action against the verdict by expressing their thoughts.
