PUPR Minister Basuki: Touchless Toll Transaction Application Launched during Trial on Bali Toll Road
JAKARTA - The Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), Basuki Hadimuljono, revealed that the application for the contactless cashless toll transaction system or Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF), namely Cantas, will be launched during the first trial of the system on the Bali Mandara Toll Road.
"The Cantas application was launched during the MLFF trial in Bali", said Basuki in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Thursday, February 16.
He added that the entire MLFF system would be tested first in Bali.
"There must be a Standard Operating Procedure or SOP, from which the SOP is tested first", he said.
Basuki emphasized that the PUPR Ministry was ready to conduct a trial run for the MLFF on the Bali Mandara Toll Road in June this year.
"We are ready to test the MLFF system in June", he said.
Previously, the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) revealed several considerations for the Bali - Mandara Toll Road to be the first toll road to undergo a trial implementation of the Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) non-cash transaction system this year.
Another consideration, continued Hedy, is the geographical conditions of Bali which is an island so that the flow of vehicle traffic is more easily controlled.
The PUPR Ministry will later evaluate the MLFF trial on the Bali - Mandara Toll Road, before expanding the trial system on other toll roads.

The MLFF trial is being carried out in stages with users during the transition period being able to transact directly through the MLFF system using an application without going through the toll booth.
However, the gateway for conventional non-cash transactions continues to operate. The PUPR Ministry started by removing one portal first at one toll gate for MLFF, while the other gate portals can still be used for non-cash transactions with electronic cards.
With MLFF, the toll transaction system will be faster because users no longer need to stop to attach their electronic cards, thereby reducing queues at toll gates. In addition, MLFF makes toll collection operational costs more efficient.
