Scrap Collector Find Active Grenades From Scavengers
CIANJUR - Presumably still active grenades from the war era found by residents in Panyusuhan Village, Sukaluyu District, Cianjur Regency, West Java, were handed over to the Cianjur 0608 Kodim through the Cilaku Sector Police.
The Cilaku Police Chief, Kompol Nandang said that the discovery of the grenade was first reported by a junk collector in Rahong Village, Cilaku District, who felt odd about the round iron he bought from scavengers.
"The collectors bought round-shaped rusty iron from junk scavengers who got it from residents in Panyusuhan Village, Sukaluyu District. After cleaning it, it turned out that hand grenades were left over from colonialism, so he reported the findings," said Kompol Nandang, citing Antara, Sunday, February 12.
The police officer who came to the location immediately secured the object as an effort to avoid unwanted things while waiting for TNI officers from the Cianjur 0608 Kodim who know more about explosive devices.
"Furthermore, the explosives suspected of being active were handed over to TNI officers and then secured at the Cianjur Makodim," he said.
To ensure that there were no similar objects at the location where the grenade was found, said Nandang, his team together with the Cianjur District Military Command 0608 officers would be combing the location again.
"We are still waiting for news from the scavengers who first bought the grenades," he said.
