Taking Advantage Of The Guard's Negligence, 2 Rohingya Refugees Jumped The Fence And Fled From Shelter
ACEH - The Lhokseumawe Police said that two Rohingya immigrants escaped from a temporary shelter at a former immigration office in Ulee Blang Mane Village, Lhokseumawe City, Aceh.
Lhokseumawe Police Chief AKBP Henki Ismanto said it was suspected that the Rohingya immigrants fled by jumping the fence and taking advantage of the guard's negligence.
"Two Rohingya immigrants fled Wednesday at around 07.00 WIB. They allegedly fled by jumping the fence. So the total number of those who fled was 154 people out of a total of 229 people," said the Police Chief accompanied by the Blang Mangat Police Chief, Iptu Saprudin in Lhokseumawe, Antara, Thursday, November 9th.
Saprudin said that currently there are 75 Rohingya immigrants remaining at the refugee camp, with details of 50 men and 25 women. They landed on two beaches in Aceh Besar District in November 2022.
"We remind the tens of Rohingya immigrants not to run away from the evacuation sites. We also ask those who handle Rohingya immigrants at the former immigration office to increase security," said Saprudin.
Based on the data collected, the escape of Rohingya immigrants from the temporary shelter at the former Lhokseumawe Immigration office has occurred repeatedly.
On December 13, 2022, 23 Rohingya immigrants fled, on December 16, 2022, four people, on December 19, 2022, one person, on December 20, 2022, four people, and on December 21, 2022, as many as 28 people.
Data from the Aceh Police said that the police handled 17 cases related to Rohingya immigrants who were stranded in the far western province of Indonesia, both crimes against human trafficking, immigration, and narcotics since 2015.
Of the dozens of cases related to the Rohingya immigrants, the police named 32 people as suspects.
In addition, from 2015 to 2023, there were seven areas in Aceh that were visited by Rohingya immigrants, namely Aceh Besar District, Pidie District, Bireuen District, North Aceh District, Lhokseumawe City, East Aceh District, Langsa City, and Aceh Tamiang District.
