Central Jakarta SDA Said Polder And Infiltration Wells Construction Is To Prevent Floods In Basin Area
JAKARTA - Central Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Sub-Department is anticipating flooding in the basin area in Central Jakarta by relying on infiltration wells and placing mobile pumps to construct polders. This is because flood water that is stored in the basin cannot flow into the connecting canal.
"Indeed, our approach is zero for the basin area, we soak it in infiltration wells, we drill a certain depth according to the aquifer layer. If a basin becomes a polder like (the) Pasar Baru (area), pump facilities and infrastructure must be provided," said the Head of Central Jakarta SDA Sub-agency, Mustajab when confirmed by VOI, Wednesday, February 8.
According to him, the use of mobile pumps in the basin area is carried out because (water) cannot gravitationally move toward the connecting canal or river carrier.
However, if infiltration wells and mobile pumps cannot cope, then a polder or a sterilized area must be made.
"So the polder is not allowed to flow from outside. We will block the point. The way to remove the water will be with a pump," he said.

As previously reported, the Head of DKI Jakarta Province Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Isnawa Adji, stated that Central Jakarta is one of the areas in Jakarta that is safe from flood inundation.
According to him, in a period of 2 to 3 years, Central Jakarta is not like other areas which are always flooded.
"Unlike the south there are often floods or inundations, in the south, there is often extreme weather. Within half an hour there are 60 fallen trees, Central (Jakarta) is relatively safe. Then in East Jakarta and West Jakarta heavy rains will definitely flood or inundate," said Isnawa Adji to reporters at the Central Jakarta City Government, Tuesday, December 13.
