Everyone Welcomes Jorginho To Arsenal With Open Arms
JAKARTA - Arsenal made a breakthrough at the end of the January player transfer market. Cannon London has officially signed Jorginho from Chelsea.
Reportedly the Italian midfielder was carried off with a transfer value of 12 million pounds, or around IDR 221 billion.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta welcomed Jorginho with open arms. He believes the former Napoli player can make a contribution to the team.
"Jorginho is a midfielder with intelligence, deep leadership skills, and rich experience in the Premier League and international football," said Mikel Arteta as quoted from the club's official website via Antara.
"Jorginho has won in his career, but he is still hungry and eager to contribute here. We are very pleased to sign Jorginho and welcome him and his family to this club," he continued.
Arsenal Sports Director Edu also gave a warm welcome. He said the player with Brazilian blood would bring a strong mentality and experience to his squad.
"He is a player that fits our style of play and he joins us at a very good moment, where he can contribute in a key position to help keep our momentum going. We welcome Jorginho to Arsenal," said Edu.
Jorginho has made 143 appearances in the Premier League. He is also a regular player in the Italian national team, with a record of 46 international appearances, and helped Italy win the 2020 European Cup.
Since bringing in Chelsea from Napoli, Jorginho has been a mainstay of the Blues. With Chelsea, Jorginho has won the Champions League, Europa League, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup.
The 31-year-old player started his career at club Verona's academy in Italy. Jorginho spent four seasons at Verona, making 96 appearances before moving to Napoli. Together with the Partenopei, Jorginho contributed to the club winning the Italian Cup and the Italian Super Cup in 2014.
At Arsenal, Jorginho will wear the number 20 shirt. He will also soon join his new team-mates ahead of Saturday's clash with Everton.
