Pep Guardiola Doesn't Recognize Manchester City Anymore
JAKARTA - Manchester City is back to winning ways after defeating Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League match, Friday, January 20, Western Indonesian Time (WIB). In the match that took place at the Etihad Stadium, City won with a score of 4-2.
Tottenham actually excel first. The visitors scored two goals before the end of the first half, namely through Dejan Kulusevski and Emerson.
However, the host "raged" in the second round. Four goals were disbursed against Tottenham. The goal was scored by Julian Alvarez, Erling Haaland, Riyad Mahrez (two goals).
Despite getting back on track with three points, City manager Pep Guardiola remains unsatisfied. He thinks his team can do better.
"We have to prepare better. I can't deny how happy we are, but we are far from the team we used to be," he told Sky Sports.
"It's not in terms of the game where we played well, but there are many other things, like competitiveness. We gave them the first goal. The second goal is ridiculous. We were lucky this time but if we don't change we will lose more points."
Asked what his team was missing, Guardiola said: "Passion, determination and desire to win from the first minute. Our fans were silent for 45 minutes."
"They were booing because we lost but in the second half we played well, we had more chances," he added.
City have won the Premier League in four of the last five seasons. However, The Citizens now have to be left far enough from the standings leader, Arsenal, who are chasing their first title in 20 years.
"Maybe we are very comfortable with winning four Premier Leagues in five years. Everything is so comfortable, but the opponent is not waiting," said the man from Spain.
"I don't recognize my team. They (previously) had the desire and desire to run. We are far from the team we had in previous seasons."
"Do you think this comeback will happen any time? It won't happen. Today we were lucky. It is my job (to get the fans excited again)," he added.
