T-Mobile Investigates Hacker Attack That Impacted 37 Million Customer Accounts
JAKARTA - The US wireless operator T-Mobile said on Thursday, January 19 that it was investigating a data breach involving 37 million postpaid and prepaid accounts that is expected to incur significant costs related to the incident.
T-Mobile said it identified the malicious activity on January 5 and detained it within one day, adding that no sensitive data such as financial information had been compromised.
But according to T-Mobile, in the attack, some basic customer information was obtained by the attackers, such as name, billing address, email, and phone number.
"Our investigation is ongoing, but the malicious activity appears to be fully contained at this time, and there is currently no evidence that malicious actors were able to penetrate or compromise our systems or networks," the company said. They also started notifying affected customers.

As a result of these conditions, the company's shares fell 2% in after-hours trading.
