With an investment of IDR 2.19 trillion, repairs to the Juwana Pati Bridge are targeted to be completed before this year's Eid

JAKARTA - During his working visit to Central Java Province, Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono accompanied by Member of Commission V of the House of Representatives (DPR) Sudewo reviewed the progress of repairing the Juwana Bridge in Pati Regency, on Thursday, January 12.

Minister Basuki is targeting the Juwana Pati Bridge, which is one of 37 Callender Hamilton (CH) bridges, is targeted to be completed before Eid 2023.

"The Hamilton Bridge in Wonokerto Demak has been completed, while the CH Bridge in Semarang City is under construction and the CH Bridge in Pati is in 59 percent progress. The plan is for PT Bukaka as the contractor to complete it on April 15 2023 or before Eid", said Basuki in his press release, quoted on Friday, January 13.

"I asked the Head of the Central Java National Road Implementation Center (BBPJN) and Bukaka to make a schedule for the acceleration and next week it will be reported to me. God willing, it can be accelerated", he added.

Basuki said work could be accelerated, one of which was by increasing the number of workers and adding materials. It is known, the construction of the Juwana Bridge has started since August 2022 and is targeted to be completed on April 15, 2023.

According to him, the replacement of the 37 Callender Hamilton Bridges in Java must be done because the average age is 40 years.

“These bridges are old and it's time to replace them. That way, the quality is expected to be better than before", he said.

For your information, the replacement of the 37 CH Bridges was carried out through the Public Private Partnership (PPP) scheme.

The PPP project for the replacement and/or duplication of the Callender Hamilton Bridge in Java Island includes the replacement and/or duplication of 37 existing CH Bridges with Steel Box Girder, Steel I Girder bridges, and their complementary buildings (including the Structural Health Monitoring System/SHMS), as well as O&M during the service period.

This project is carried out by PT Baja Titian Utama as the Implementing Business Entity and PT Penjaminan Infrastruktur Indonesia (Persero) as the guarantor. The concession period for this project is 12 years, consisting of two years of construction and 10 years of service.

Physical construction will begin in 2022 and will be completed in 2023. The investment cost is IDR 2.19 trillion which is financed by Bank Mandiri. The PPP form is Design-Build-Finance-Operate-Maintenance-Transfer with a return on investment scheme in the form of availability payments.

The Callender Hamilton Bridge began construction in Indonesia in the mid-1970s and was planned to be able to carry 100 percent of the standard Bina Marga load that year. CH bridges are designed in such an economical way, resulting in relatively small dimensions of the trusses, when compared to other types of steel frame bridges, such as the Dutch, Austrian, and Australian steel trusses.

A total of 37 bridges to be replaced are located in Banten, namely three bridges: Batu Ceper Bridge, Cisadane A and B, and Tawing I. In the West Java region 16 bridges, including Cilamaya Bridge, Ciasem III A, Cipangaritan B, Cigadung I B, Karang Sembung, Sigranela B, Kalijaga A, Kanci IB, Citanduy, Ciputra Haji, Cikao A, Cisomang, Cimanuk, Cilutung, Cikeruh, and Batujajar.

Then, in Central Java 10 bridges, including the Tajum II Margasana Bridge, Kalibanger A, Wonokerto II A, Jurug B, Pemali Brebes B, Tajum Karang Bawang, Pedes B, Pang I A, and Juana I.
