Despite being looked down upon, NTT is ready to prove it can host the 2023 ASEAN Summit

JAKARTA - East Nusa Tenggara is ready to host the 2023 ASEAN Summit which will be held in May.

"We are all ready, and various other preparations are also being prepared so that the implementation of the ASEAN Summit will run smoothly", said Deputy Governor of NTT, Josef Nae Soi, in Kupang, Monday, January 9 as quoted from Antara.

This was conveyed after attending the Joint Christmas event held by the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights in NTT in Kupang.

He said that many parties considered that NTT would not be able to host the 2023 ASEAN Summit.

"But we will prove to those who don't believe that we can host", he added.

He said that the location for the 2023 ASEAN Summit would not be held in the city of Labuan Bajo, but would be held in Golo Mori.

Meanwhile, the Main Director of the Labuan Bajo Flores Authority Executing Agency, Shana Fatina, also assessed that the central government is preparing the area to host the international meeting.

"Some time ago our foreign minister, Mrs. Retno Lestari Priansasri Marsudi, reviewed the preparations here", he said.

The NTT Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Johanis Asadoma, also ensured security in the area ahead of and during the ASEAN Summit in May 2023.

He has also personally seen the various preparations there, and for security, he said he asked for instructions from the National Police Headquarters because it relates to national security.
