Chairman of Muhammadiyah Asks Residents Not to Bring Their Organizations Into the 2024 Election

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Central Executive of Muhammadiyah, Haedar Nashir, stated that association members were given the freedom to participate in elections. However, they were asked not to involve or act on behalf of the organization in providing support or the election process.

"According to the constitutional outline, the citizens of the association are given the freedom to participate in the election, but the attitude to voting is everyone's business. Those who are not allowed to carry around and act on behalf of an organization", said Haedar, reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, January 3.

Haedar said Muhammadiyah as an organization played a role in guarding this nation, including regarding elections. Muhammadiyah moves according to its portion so that the elections are carried out honestly and fairly and on schedule.

Muhammadiyah asked the members of the association to succeed in the 2024 Election and maintain their commitment so that it is carried out according to the rules that have been set.

"So, there will no longer be any issues floating around the 2024 Election", he said.

Haedar hopes that Muhammadiyah members will encourage the birth of elites, both executive and legislative who have integrity and a statesman spirit. In addition, the 2024 elections can give birth to elites who develop the interests of the nation and state above the interests of their groups.

Haedar also asked members of the Muhammadiyah organization to be able to maintain conduciveness, unity, and unity, and not complicate the atmosphere which is currently starting to heat up.

"It's not clear what the candidates are, they're already making a fuss, they're running out of energy. Usually, people who are making a fuss don't have enough work, busy people don't think about things like that", he said.

Previously, the Minister of Religion Yaqut Cholil Qoumas instructed all of his staff to maintain conduciveness in their respective regions ahead of a political year that was indicated to be full of vulnerabilities.

"I remind you again, 2023 has been a year which is indicated as a political year full of vulnerabilities. I order everyone to anticipate it", said the Minister of Religion.

Yaqut said religion is often used as an instrument in political contestation. Conditions like this must be anticipated and should not be allowed so as not to become seeds of conflict and divide national security.

Because of that, he asked the Ministry of Religion, and central and regional officials to take early mitigation and anticipation steps.
