PSG Negotiates Lionel Messi's Contract Extension After 2022 World Cup Qatar
JAKARTA — Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) President Nasser Al-Khelaifi confirmed that his club is in talks to extend Lionel Messi's contract.
The negotiations were carried out because Messi was said to be very happy at the Parc des Princes. It was that feeling that allowed him to perform well with the club at the start of this season's campaign.
"He is very happy, you can see that with the national team. If a player is not happy you will see their performances are not good for the national team. He has been fantastic this season for us, he has scored a lot of goals and assists for the national team and the club. Khelaifi said as quoted by Sky Sport.
The Paris giants are looking to reach a new deal with the Argentina captain after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. They also hope to keep La Pulga at the end of this season.
The former Barcelona player's contract at PSG will expire at the end of this season. However, Les Parisiens have the option to extend the deal with the 35-year-old player for the next season.
"So what we agreed together was that after the World Cup, sit down together. But both parties, our club side and him, are very happy. So, we will talk after the World Cup", Khelaifi said.
If this effort is achieved then Barcelona will definitely bite their fingers. The reason is, the Catalan club is reportedly eager to bring their former playmaker back to Camp Nou when his contract with PSG is over.
Messi himself still doesn't want to talk about his future because his focus is on the World Cup which is currently underway. Reportedly, he will only decide on the tournament which took place in Qatar.
Messi has performed well at PSG this season, registering 12 goals and 14 assists in 19 matches in all competitions. He also helped Argentina to the quarter-finals of the Qatar World Cup, registering three goals and an assist in four matches.
