West Sumatra Pariaman Fishermen Finally Go To Sea After 2 Weeks Of Being Detained By The Weather, Now They Can Catch 320 Kg Of Tuna Per Day
WEST SUMATERA - It has been more than two weeks since fishermen in Pariaman City stopped going to sea due to bad weather. Today the activities of fishermen in the West Sumatra region are back to normal.
"For 15 days, fishermen have not been able to go to sea. Alhamdulillah, since the last four days, fishermen have started to go out, and today almost all fishermen are back to normal fishing", said the Head of the West Sumatra Fisherman Group, Riau Oyong Chandra, in Pariaman, Monday, November 28, as reported by Antara.
He explained that bad weather had hit Pariaman waters from November 11-24, 2022. During that time fishermen could only fill activities such as repairing fishing gear equipment and some were construction workers to earn income.
After the weather started to improve towards the weekend, the catches obtained by the fishermen were promising again. Riau Oyong admitted that in one day the catch of fishermen can reach 320 kilograms of tuna.
"Although the catch has not been much, it has been good after a long time of not being able to go to sea", he said.
The bad weather that hit two weeks ago was actually not as bad as in previous years, but still, fishermen could not go to sea due to safety considerations.
According to him, several days a month usually fishermen also don't go to sea because of bad weather, but this month the bad weather includes a long 14 days.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Fishermen's Group Fiyo Suki, Ardison, said that although the Pariaman sea was hit by extreme weather, there were also fishermen who dared to go to sea.
"When the rain stopped, the fishermen ventured out to sea, but they didn't catch much because the rain stopped for a while. They immediately returned to the beach", he said.
Previously, fishermen in Pariaman City could not go to sea due to bad weather that hit the area on Friday, November 11.
Head of the Department of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries of Pariaman City, Dasril through Head of Maritime Affairs Citra Aditur Bahri in Pariaman, said that the weather in Pariaman and its surroundings was raining with moderate to heavy intensity, sometimes accompanied by strong winds.
As a result of this condition, the fishermen cannot go to sea and their daily activities are filled to repair fishing gear and gather with fellow fishermen in stalls near their respective homes.
