JAKARTA - Indonesia came out as the overall champion in the International Badminton Federation (BWF) 2022 Para-Badminton World Championship which was held at Yoyogi National Stadium First Gymnasium, Tokyo, Japan on November 1-6.

Indonesia's first gold medal was presented by mixed doubles SH6, Subhan/Rina Marlina, who defeated the Peruvian pair, Nilton Quispe Ignacio/Carmen Giuliana Poveda Flores in the final match on Sunday. Subhan/Rina won 21-9 21-15.

The gold medal obtained in the mixed doubles with Subhan further added to Rina Marlina's enthusiasm to win her second gold. Rina donated the third gold for Indonesia in the women's singles number SH6 after defeating Carmen Giuliana Poveda Flores (Peru), 21-14 21-14.

Indonesia's fourth gold was won through the men's doubles pair SL3-SL4, Hikmat Ramdani/Ukun Rukaendi over the victory of the Indian pair, Pramod Bhagat/Manoj Sarkar, 14-21 21-18 21-13.

The coach of the Indonesian para-badminton team Jarot Hernowo said that the results in Japan exceeded the target because NPC Indonesia actually set a target to match the achievement of the 2018 World Championship.

“The success of winning six gold medals and becoming the overall champion in this world championship is the target set by NPC Indonesia. Initially, we only set a minimum target of equaling the achievement of the 2018 World Championship, which is four gold medals, but we are very proud that we were able to win six gold. This success is proof of the para-badminton coaching carried out by the Indonesian NPC," said Jarot through a press statement in Jakarta, Antara, Sunday, November 6.

Indonesia actually has the opportunity to win two other gold pieces. Unfortunately, in the final of the men's singles number SL4, Fredy Setiawan lost to Lucas Mazur of France, 12-21 17-21. Dheva Anrimusthi who appeared in the men's singles SU5 also had to lose to the Malaysian player, Cheah Liek Hou, 14-21 12-21.
