New Cabinet Formed, British PM Rishi Sunak's Office: Hard Work Begins

JAKARTA - British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is now poised for hard work, having appointed his team of senior ministers on Tuesday, a source in his office said, adding the new cabinet will ensure unity and stability through uncertain times.

Sunak, who replaced Liz Truss, chose not to bring in new finance or foreign minister, and appointed a mix of allies and former 'foes' to senior positions.

As the third prime minister this year, Sunak faces a daunting list of issues, including how to overcome the economic crisis, and how to unite and rebuild a fractured party whose reputation has been torn apart by months of scandal and bickering.

"The hard work starts now and together, the Prime Minister's new cabinet will make it happen for the British people," said a source at 10 Downing Street, as quoted from Reuters 26 Oktober.

"This cabinet brings together party talent. It reflects a unified party and a cabinet with significant experience, ensuring that in this uncertain time there is continuity at the heart of government," the source said.

Sunak's decision to keep finance minister Jeremy Hunt is expected to keep financial market worries at bay until the fiscal report is expected on October 31. Meanwhile, Suella Braverman's reappointment as Minister of Home Affairs has drawn criticism.
