Former Journalist Marina Ovsyannikova Escapes House Arrest And Becomes A Fugitive In Russia
JAKARTA - The name Marina Ovsyannikova again echoes throughout Russia. The former state TV journalist who denounced the Kremlin's invasion of Ukraine managed to escape house arrest.
Last March, Ovsyannikova acted super reckless. Go to the location of the running Russian evening news program on Channel 1. This station is controlled by the Kremlin.
Ovsyannikova then stood behind the announcer on duty. Then unfurled a poster that read: "No war, stop war, don't believe the propaganda, they are lying to you here."
Whereas Marina Ovsyannikova is an editor on the channel. Russian TV news is tightly controlled by the Kremlin and reflects only the Russian version of events in Ukraine.
However, as reported by the Moscow Times, Monday, October 3, Russia put Marina Ovsyannikova, on the federal wanted list.
Last August, Russia placed her under house arrest on charges of spreading "false information" about the Russian Armed Forces.
Last week, Ovsyannikova's ex-husband claimed that the mother-of-two had escaped house arrest with her 11-year-old daughter.
It was not immediately clear whether she was still in Russia or had fled the country.
She faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted of spreading "false information" about the army.
