Office Hours Arrangements To Overcome Jakarta Traffic Jams Haven't Been Realized
JAKARTA - The Traffic Directorate of Metro Jaya Police said that setting office hours to prevent traffic congestion on Jakarta's streets requires coordination with a number of stakeholders.
Director of Traffic Metro Jaya Police, Kombes Latif Usman, said his party played a role in providing data to stakeholders in formulating policies.
"We are not the sole determinant, we who are in the field want to convey this data in the field that we can use to break down congestion, but this needs to be studied by the relevant agencies," said Latif, quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, September 22.
Latif also said that the police were waiting for information regarding the development of the policy discussion.
"It is being studied by the experts, it will be discussed and then decided together. We have provided the data, we have discussed it, we have discussed it with several parties," he said.
Previously, Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Ahmad Riza Patria said that the legal basis for working hours for office employees in Jakarta as proposed by the Traffic Directorate of Metro Jaya Police should be discussed with the central government.
According to Riza, the proposed arrangement of office hours as a step to solve the congestion problem in Jakarta cannot be decided unilaterally and must go through a wider stage.
"Because offices in Jakarta are not only private and regional level, but also at the central government level," said Riza.

The suggestion from the Directorate of Traffic of the Metro Jaya Police regarding the regulation of working hours is a good thing and is still being discussed.
"It cannot be unilateral, as I have said before, this is not only related to the Metro Jaya Police and the provincial government, but also to the central government," said Riza.
Therefore, to issue the policy, a detailed discussion with the central government must be carried out.
However, Riza conveyed that the proposal was considered by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to solve traffic congestion which is a classic problem in the capital city.
"In principle, the proposal is considered by all of us, in order to reduce traffic jams in the morning," he said.
