Champions League Draw Takes Inter Milan To Group Hell, Zanetti: We Are Not Afraid

JAKARTA - The results of the 2022/2023 Champions League draw put Inter Milan in Group C. Joined with Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Viktoria Plzen, Inter are considered to be in the hell group.

However, Inter Milan vice president Javier Zanetti insists his squad will not be afraid to compete even though in this group there are Munich and Barcelona who tend to perform very well in this competition.

"We have no fear, only respect. I think Inter will be ready," Zanetti said as quoted by Football Italia, Friday.

The meeting with Munich and Barcelona will also remind Inter Milan of winning the treble under Jose Mourinho in 2010. At that time, Munich and Barca were opponents who were surprisingly defeated by the Nerazzuri to lift the big ear trophy.

For Zanetti, that moment is a beautiful memory that is now starting to come back to haunt his mind. However, he will not be complacent with it, because football has changed Inter must also perform better.

"I said this season there are teams that we need to face at our peak because they can cause us problems at any time. We improved and proved that last season. We will try again," said Zanetti.

“The Champions League is a competition about details, against the best in the world. We are there and we will express our opinion."

Last season, Inter missed out on a chance to appear in the final as they were eliminated in the last 16 after being beaten by Liverpool 0-2 at home and 0-1 at Anfield.

Now, the result of the group draw will motivate Inter to be perfect at the start of the competition. What's more, football is a sport that is constantly evolving and there must be a big change in the Munich camp which Zanetti says has now been well consolidated.

As for Barcelona, it is also said to have found the balance of the game again under the tutelage of Xavi Hernandez. Meanwhile, Inter, continued Zanetti, want to continue the process of growth from the results obtained last season.
